Quite awhile ago we bought a bunch of food storage and to save money we decided to can it ourselves. Well it has taken a very long time to get going on it and actually can it. On Friday night we were able to get the canner and all the cans so we could work on it while we watched conference on Saturday. Let me tell you it was one BIG project but it ended up being a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed helping.
Here is what our storage room looked like before we started the canning process. To give you another idea of how much we had we had to buy 234 cans from the cannery. I kept thinking, Eric are you sure we didn't over estimate. because there are A LOT of cans.

Eric helped poor the bags when they were really full because they were kind of heavy.

Camri's job was to put the oxygen packets in the cans.

Garrett's job was to put the metal lids on and carry the cans over to the counter to be sealed.
The kids really enjoyed it but after all the oats were done they were pretty tired of doing it. After a short break they were right back into the swing of things.

After a long day we finished with all 234 cans but we're sad to say we didn't have ENOUGH!! I couldn't believe it. We still need to can 2 more bags of flour and all of the sugar. Here is our after picture of our storage room.
